But I could care less about these characters anyway. The only reason I’ve been watching the last couple of years was because my favorites from the original cast were still on occasionally, and because I liked a few new characters (Jane, Claire, Alli, Connor, Anya, Holly J… maybe a few more).

This movie pissed me off. I love Emma, and I love Spinner, but the whole thing made no sense. This show has only recently been full of random plot twists. With the original cast — Page, Jimmy, Emma, Manny, Spinner, Jay, Toby, etc — relationships and storylines were built over a few episodes. There were plot twists, yes, but they never made me go, “Where did that come from?!” Degrassi is now just like General Hospital. I wouldn’t bat an eye if anyone came back from the dead.

I liked Jane and Spinner. I thought they were good for each other. I stopped watching for a while because this show has just gotten ridiculous and is now like all the other drama llama teen shows, so I missed the whole Jane cheating on Spinner thing. I think it’s messed up, but nothing they couldn’t have worked through, given their history that the writers apparently forgot.

And all of a sudden it’s, “Surprise! Emma and Spinner, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G.” Jane is all, “You have my blessing,” and they all live happily ever after. Random, and completely out of character. Spinner and Emma interacted on a minimum basis throughout their whole existence on this show, but we are supposed to believe this crap.

It was cheap for the writers to ship away the original cast this way. Since they graduated, we’ve only gotten bits and pieces of them, and they were completely useless. I liked the episode before this movie where Emma was once again taking a stand on something and had decided what to do with her life, but after two years, this is all we get? The older old character — Paige and company — were shipped off similarly.

The worst part is, now that none of the original characters are on the show, I have no favorites anymore, and I’m so pissed about the direction this movie set things, I still want to catch up and see what I missed in the last month or so. Now I know how my mom and grandmother feel about General Hospital.

Sigh.

Emma WAYYYY hotter than Jane. There’s just something about Paula’s manly jawline that bothers me.. Peter is still around, I’m basically going by who’s still in the opening creds and Peter is still there. I have a feeling he’s going to be the new Spinner.
